Hermann Area District Hospital Clinical Laboratory is at it again!
Article Date: March 25, 2013
The chemistry section of the laboratory is getting a much needed upgrade to their equipment. Pictured with the new Ortho Vitros ECIQ analyzer is key operator, Brad Ellis, BSc, MLS (shown in photo). Brad recently attended an intensive week long training session in Rochester, New York to learn about the instrument. Shawn Blankenship, MLT (ASCP), laboratory specialist from Ortho Clincial, is on site to validate the new analyzer for use. This analyzer performs high complexity chemistry testing such as thyroid function, prostate cancer screening, and therapeutic drug levels.
Once the analyzer is ready to use, the laboratory plans to upgrade with a second analyzer that performs routine chemistry testing such as cholesterol, potassium, and glucose levels.
“The most important thing you need to produce quality laboratory results is a good scientist. The second thing you need is up to date, state of the art equipment.”, says Laboratory Director Curtis Thomas, PhD, MLS (ASCP)
“This equipment replaces a very old analyzer, will help us provide more accurate results, and help expand our test menu to improve patient services.
